On November 15, Distinguished Visiting Professor C. Mohan, our honorary speaker at the 26th issue of the "Tsinghua Software Forum" series, delivered a talk on "Data Management Implications of Intelligent Computing" at the 10-500 East Main Building, School of Software, Tsinghua University. 30 Faculties and students participated in person and a few dozen attended online. In this talk, Professor C. Mohan shared his view on the transformative impact of intelligent computing on data management practices, and the significance of integrating intelligent computing technologies into Databases, such as heterogeneous integration, high-performance computing, and the management of diverse data types. By analyzing the business performance of the database market, Professor C. Mohan discussed the relevance of historical data management systems while emphasizing the current shift towards cloud-based environments and the necessity for effective data governance. He listed the challenges imposed by AI, also introduced the importance of international cooperation in promoting innovation in data management systems. Furthermore, Professor C. Mohan provided a comprehensive overview of how intelligent computing is reshaping the data management landscape, and a forward-looking perspective on the interplay between technology, governance, and collaborative research efforts between global institutions. The complexities of modern data management in an increasingly intelligent computing environment calls for joint exploration of the global research community.

【A Short Bio of Prof. C. Mohan】
Professor C. Mohan is a member of the American National Academy of Engineering, a foreign member of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, Distinguished Visiting Professor of Tsinghua University, Distinguished Professor of Science of Hong Kong Baptist University, IBM Fellow, ACM Fellow, IEEE Fellow. He retired from IBM Almaden Research Center in June 2020 as one of the pioneers of contemporary database and data management technology, his research has influenced several database products, and was the first IBMer and non-American to receive the ACM SIGMOD Innovation Award, the fifth winner after Mike Stonebraker (1992), Jim Gray (1993), Phil Bernstein (1994) and David DeWitt (1995). He is also winner of the VLDB10 Best Paper Award.
