Professor Jiaguang Sun, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, was born in Zhenjiang, Jiangsu Province. He received his B.S. Degree from Department of Automation, Tsinghua University in 1970. He has served as the Deputy President of National Natural Science Foundation of China. He is the Deputy of the 12th National People’s Congress, Member of Committee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports. Prof. Sun is president of Chinese Society of Computer Graphics, CCF. He is current deputy chair of Tsinghua Academic Committee, Chair of National Research Centre for Enterprise Information Technology and Systems Engineering, Chair of National Laboratory of Big Data Systems Software Engineering. He was Chair of Emeritus, Tsinghua National Laboratory of Information Science and Technology, Tsinghua Institute of Information, School of Software. Professor Sun’s research contributions are mainly in the research areas of computer graphics and computer aided design, computer software and applications, in particular, software systems modelling, analysis and verification. He is the IP owner of industrial strength 2D/3D CAD products, and 3D product modelling system, PLD/PDM systems and EIS systems. His research has influences hundreds of large and medium-sized enterprises in the manufacturing industry in China. His contribution to the Chinese information technology and software industry development is hard to parallel. Professor Sun is also an advocator of Higher Education Reformation and innovation. The establishment of School of Software in top 35 Chinese Universities was due to his vision and contribution. His teaching philosophy of “Learning by Doing, learning to Practice, Practicing to Make Breakthrough, Practicing to Innovate” has influenced numerous students and graduates in Tsinghua.
